Conducted as per MLC 2006 guidelines for seafarers, officers and ratings.
A DG Shipping medical examination — widely known as an ILO Medical or Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) — is the health assessment prescribed under the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000 and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006.
It must be conducted by a medical examiner approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India, and confirms that a seafarer is medically and mentally fit to work on board a vessel.
The resulting Certificate of Medical Fitness is required before a seafarer joins a ship, and feeds directly into the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) and INDoS records maintained by Indian maritime authorities. At D+ Diagnocare, every examination is conducted in one visit, with radiology and laboratory reporting overseen by an MD Radiodiagnosis-qualified Medical Director.
Any seafarer signing on, renewing sea service, or applying for a CDC requires a valid DG Shipping Medical Fitness Certificate.

Everything you need to know about DG Shipping Medical Examinations, certificates and fitness requirements.
A DG Shipping medical examination, also called an ILO/MLC medical or PEME, is the health assessment prescribed under the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000 and ILO/MLC 2006 standards. It is conducted by a DGS-approved examiner and certifies whether a seafarer is medically fit for sea duty.
All seafarers — deck and engine officers, ratings, cadets, electro-technical officers and catering crew — must hold a valid fitness certificate before signing on a vessel, before issue of a CDC and INDoS number, and on renewal.
A standard certificate is generally valid for up to two years for adult seafarers (one year for seafarers under 18), subject to applicable Merchant Shipping Notices. Some employers or flag states may specify a shorter validity.
Carry an original photo ID (passport or CDC), your INDoS number, two recent passport-size photographs, a company or RPSL referral letter if applicable, your previous medical certificate for renewals, and details of any vision correction you use.
Yes — an 8 to 10 hour fast is recommended if blood sugar and lipid profile are part of your panel. Plain water is permitted during the fasting period.
D+ Diagnocare conducts ILO/DG Shipping, Panama and Liberian flag medicals as standard. Other flag states such as Singapore, Marshall Islands and Bahamas, plus company-specific proformas, can be arranged on request.
In most cases, reports and certificates are issued the same day, provided all components — X-ray, ultrasound, laboratory tests, audiometry and ECG/TMT — are completed during a single visit.
